Active antennas of that type need to be dedicated to just one appliance and/or one received channel each, but for indoor antennas that become part of the appliance itself, and only require tuning into one channel at a time, that sort of design would be very practical, I think. Although it would be diffficult. say, for a DVR with multiple tuners. Anyway, the site Mark Schubin posted does say: "He also added the HD-mini is suitable for the places where there is high reception rate," so it sounds like truth in advertizing to me.
