It would be more difficult to build such a thing into recording devices that 
don't have large surface areas. Active antennas of that type need to be 
dedicated to just one appliance and/or one received channel each, but for 
indoor antennas that become part of the appliance itself, and only require 
tuning into one channel at a time, that sort of design would be very 
practical, I think. Although it would be diffficult. say, for a DVR with 
multiple tuners.

Anyway, the site Mark Schubin posted does say: "He also added the HD-mini is 
suitable for the places where there is high reception rate," so it sounds 
like truth in advertizing to me. No claims about antenna gain here. The 
Silver Sensor's place should still be assured.
