Most new construction ventures here in LA & OC are rolling wireless instead
of FTTH. Ladera Ranch, etc. The cost savings of a mesh @ 11Mbits vs FTTH is
phenomenal. Plus, the 'organization' can collect monthly dues vs. the telco
or cableco. I believe they simply undercut the internet plan from the local
telco or cableco by a buck or two -- and some do it for free (rather, it
gets rolled into your association dues and ya don't know it).

So a T1/T3 gets dropped to the management center, and a mesh gets rolled out
from there. Beats dark fiber hands down - the only construction needed is a
GFCI outlet, low-gain antenna, and a lockbox for the AP.

As for complexity, even a monkey can roll out billable WiFi these days. All
you have to be able to do is buy a box, or pick your bootable installer
linux 'commercial wifi hub'-oriented distro of choice.

Cheers
Kon

Many of the builders we looked at offered Home Director systems either
included,
or as an option. Ours did not. Unfortunately, they've been unwilling to
agree
to any sort of 3rd party installation in writing. Might just turn out to be
a
'guerrilla' install on the weekend ;) But even if that doesn't work out,
I'm
quite confident that wireless will suffice.
