In case it wasn't already obvious, yes, Craig. In spite of the fact that radio can and does also stream live. Live streaming didn't seem to become a nail in radio's coffin, as you claimed it would be for TV broadcasting.

It has always been obvious Bert, and I have mentioned this many times.

Radio is PRIMARILY a mobile service. There is a HUGE installed base of mobile radio receiver that work VERY WELL. Radio continues to serve a mobile audience, however, they now want a government mandate to put digital radio receivers in every mobile device.

Must have something to do with Broadcaster's DNA, that they always want the government to force us to buy receivers...

TV has always been primarily a FIXED service, which at one time, relied on spectrum to get signals to fixed locations. It never worked very well as a mobile service, and with ATSC it hardly works at all, requiring an additional (very inefficient) standard to reach an almost non-existant mobile receiver installed base.

Meanwhile a significant portion of the population - far larger than the audience that still uses TV antennas - is walking around with sophisticated devices that use the spectrum to access ALL KINDS of services, including audio and video streams.

Broadcasters were warned two decades ago that the future would be mobile. They ignored the warning and rely on the force of government to generate revenues from competitors to survive.

Regards
Craig
