I think we may want to present the two proposed methods for dealing
with unavoidable WP loss (by trading EP for WP or by going into
negative WP) and let the reader decide when to use them. I can't think
of an authoritative reason to choose one or the other, and I'd feel
better giving the readers guidance and letting them choose something
that they're comfortable with.

Is there a reason to avoid the negative WP method?

Not in our XHTML versions, no. But they are used in the LaTeX version
(which is used to create the PDF versions). I hope we'll get back to
creating PDFs one day. The only reason we quit was due to lack of
volunteer time and LaTeX skill.
