I guess now is as good a time as any to make this announcement:
About 10 days ago, I was contacted by an editor at Random House whom Joe Dever
had put us in touch
with about 3 months ago. I'd assumed she'd forgotten about our request for help
contacting Mr
Newton, but apparently she's been very busy, but found time to send a letter
out asking him to
contact us. A day or so later we received an E-mail from Mrs Anita Newton
saying:
Maeve Banham from Random House has sent me your letter enquiring about my
husband, Trevor
Newton. I am sorry to tell you that he died in 2002 but I very well remember
the enjoyment he got
from illustrating Mr Dever's book.
We offered our (belated) condolences and explained to Mrs Newton the reason why
we were attempting
to contact her husband and asked whether she was amenable to us using her
husband's work as part of
Project Aon, to which she replied:
Of course you have my blessing. I am sure Trevor would have been delighted to
hear that Joe
Dever's (and , incidentally, his own) work is being preserved. Good luck with
the project.
So there you have it--we have permission to use Trevor Newton's illustrations!
