Wayfinder Access: A GPS Solution Supported by Mobile Speak for Symbian
Phones
Further making the mobile phone a useful everyday tool for our users, Code
Factory partners up with the Swedish company Wayfinder to provide an
accessible GPS solution on the Symbian platform. Wayfinder offers GPS
navigation services, direction and maps available using a mobile phone.
Together, Code Factory and Wayfinder bring Mobile Speak and Mobile
Magnifier support for the new wayfinder Access application which is
designed with the needs of the blind and visually impaired in mind.
Wayfinder Access aims to help people with visual impairment to become more
mobile with better access to their surroundings. With Mobile Speak for
Symbian phones, the directions visually displayed on the device screen are
converted into highly intelligible speech. Moreover, thanks to Mobile
Magnifier with its font smoothing and other unique features, Wayfinder
Access becomes the perfect mobility solution even to the low-vision users.
Eduard Sánchez, CEO of Code Factory explains, "We are very enthusiastic
about supporting Wayfinder Access and giving our users the opportunity to
use a fantastic GPS solution. Many visually impaired individuals and phone
operators are looking for a mobile navigation tool that meets their
requirements and Wayfinder Access is just what they are looking for."
Wayfinder Access is a new mobile navigation product developed to facilitate
the everyday life of the visually impaired. With the four new 'Vicinity
Views', a location becomes both visible and audible. This means that Points
of Interest (POI), crossings or favourites etc are listed according to
their distance from the user's location. Wayfinder Access also includes a
'Where am I?' function. This means that the application is not only an
indispensable support in guiding users to chosen destinations, but also
enables them to establish their location.
Code Factory is currently in the final development phase for this powerful
software combination and hope to make it available to our customers very
soon.
