Audacity 2.1.1 includes the following new features which are relevant to
the users of screen readers:
1. The transport status is now the first item in the status bar. This tells
you whether Audacity is stopped, playing or recording, and whether it is
Paused.
2. There are four new playback keystrokes for checking a selected time
range. These will be described in message to follow shortly.
3. There are two new playback keystrokes to help with aligning and pasting.
Again, these will be described in a message to follow shortly.
4. You can now move to the first track or the last track by pressing
ctrl+home or ctrl+end respectively.
5. You can now assign shortcuts to the commands for moving a track up,
down, to top, or to bottom. The names of the commands are move focused
track up, down, to top, and to bottom.
In Audacity 2.1.1, there are four new playback commands to check that
you've selected the time range which you want:
1. To play a short period before selection start, press shift+F5.
2. To play a short period after selection start, press shift+F6.
3. To play a short period before selection end, press shift+F7.
4. To play a short period after selection end, press shift+F8.
Of these commands, shift+F7 to play a short period before selection end
will probably be the most useful. It allows you to listen to the end of the
selection without having to listen to the whole selected time range.
The periods before and after selection start/end share the same settings as
the play cut preview command (C), and can be set in the playback category
of Preferences.
These commands are similar to the corresponding commands available in
mp3directcut.
In Audacity 2.1.1 there are two new playback commands to help with aligning
and pasting:
1. To play a short period before and after the cursor or selection start,
press ctrl+shift+F5.
2. To play a short period before and after selection end, press
ctrl+shift+F7.
So, for example, if you're aligning a track, and use the command align
tracks start to cursor/selection start, you can then press ctrl+shift+F5 to
hear a short period before and after the cursor.
If you paste some audio into a track, you can use these two commands to
check the transitions at the start and end of the pasted audio.
This is how the keystrokes for these two commands fit in with the
keystrokes for checking a selected time range:
1. Shift+F5 plays a short period before selection start, and Ctrl+shift+F5
plays a short period before and after the cursor or selection start.
2. Similarly, shift+F7 plays a shoft period before selection end, and
ctrl+shift+F7 plays a short period before and after selection end.
