Meaning? The stigma is still on him over all that? So much so that even NFL
Films won't touch him? If that's the case, it blows me away. That whole thing
was a great big steaming pile of horseshit.

A few weeks ago, I watched an episode of NFL 360 (excellent show, if you
haven't seen it yet) focusing on the experience of black QBs in the history of
the NFL. The title was "Game Changers". It talked about most of the things
you've heard about (especially if you've been around as long as I have), as
well as several people and perspectives I'd not. After watching it, I
deleted it from my DVR and thought: :was Kordell in that? At all?" I pretty
quickly dismissed it, because of *course* he was, how do you talk about the
history of black QBs in the NFL ant NOT talk about him?? One of the most
exciting players at the position? With a sociological significance to boot? I
must have just missed a clip of him in some B roll or something. Or I was
looking at Instagram when someone mentioned him. So I let it go.
Fast forward. I watched one of NFL Network's "100 greatest roundtables", with
Mike Vick, Warren Moon, Doug Williams, and James "Shack" Harris (of the Rams,
back in the day. I'd never heard of him, was glad to learn something new). A
good show, heard a lot of the same stories and a lot of the same sentiments,
this time from the POV of the players themselves. But...
This time, I was looking for it. Some mention of Kordell Stewart. A shot of him
running away from a bunch of Ravens DBs while someone talked about the
atleticism of some of these guys like Vick or Lamar Jackson. Nothing. Not a
clip, not a blurb, not an off-hand mention of some game where he threw a 65
yard bomb... No sight of a Black and Gold blur weaving through blockers like
pylons...
And then it hit me... There was ALSO no mention of Joe Gilliam. No clips of
him, either. I would think a guy who put Terry Bradshaw on the bench would get
just *little* notice. Hell, I'd think either of them would have. Buuuuuut...
Nothing. Squat. Not so much as a shot of a headline in some old newspaper.
Seriously. What the bloody hell? One was a guy who beat out TB to start the
season they ended up in the Super Bowl... The other a guy who made it to two
AFC championship games and punted a couple of times (ha ha). HOW do neither of
these guys garner a single word or picture in this discussion?
