[vicsireland] AVG Anti-Virus and Firewall, or Windows Security Essentials? That is the question!

Hi folks,
I’m using the paid version of AVG Anti-Virus and Firewall, which is due to
expire in February.
I’m wondering how credible an alternative is Microsoft’s Windows Security
Essentials?
Interestingly enough, well known podcaster Mary Emerson did a podcast on
Blind Cool Tech, looking at the Microsoft product. In it, she said she
ditched her paid version of AVG in favour of Microsoft’s Windows Security
Essentials. but didn't state why.
I know the Microsoft product is free, but I don’t think that would
influence me too much when it comes to deciding whether or not to renew my
AVG subscription.
For the record, I’m using Windows XP with Jaws 6.
