Hi everybody. I'm running vista, Jaws10 and ie8. Recently I have been unable to get into facebook and many other sites, which seem to relate to facebook in someway trigger the ie cannot find the page message, but at the same time that page, or most of it does come up. Twitter is also affected. I have just passed pension age, I won't say retirement as if anything I am working harder on a variety of projects, including my farm than ever. does anybody know if the scheme which provides equipment and software to employed people can apply after 66? That might solve my problem, as my laptop is also getting on. Frankly I can't afford to lash out the cash myself and it is currently infuriating me and taking an increasing amount of time to get stuff which is essential done. Facebook for me is not just a social and recreational tool.

All the best

Ed

That's interesting Eamonn! I cannot get anywhere with it now, I wonder if it
is because I am still using XP with Internet 8. Please advise what you are
using or how you managed to get directions from it.

With much thanks,

Maureen.

Hi Maureen,

Thanks for this email, as I'd long since forgotten this feature in Google
maps.

I tried it (directions from Lr Mount Street to Baggot Street,) and it
worked!

Now all I have to do is put it in my favourites!

Regards,

Eamonn

Hi Tim, many moons ago you kindly gave a website for accessible google
maps.
I used this link on a number of occasions and found it terrific but I now
find that google have taken the accessible page off which greatly
disappoints me. Maybe you might have a look and see if you can resurrect
another link!

With thanks,
Maureen.

Hi all,

Well I've done a bit of digging around and have come up with something. It
appears that google maps can be set to give textual directions rather than
a
graphical map.

To see this in action try the following:

Go to:

http://maps.google.co.uk/?output=html

The 'output=html' tells google to use html rather than pictures.

In the edit field type something like:

from: O'Connell street Dublin Ireland to: Whitworth Road Dublin Ireland

The 'from: and 'to:' are important. I believe other keywords like
'near:' exist, but I haven't tried them.

Click the search maps button.

You will then be given the directions by car from O'Connell Street to
Whitworth road.

You can click on a link which will give you the walking directions as
well.

It gives you the approximate distance and time taken to complete the
journey also.

Note, it will only give street names and distances, so you might find it
tricky if you were blind in a strange area.

Having said that, its better than nothing.

Have fun,

Tim
