I mean to say, that my version of Internet Explorer is the 32-bit version.
As for Firefox, well, the site that would've used Java works perfectly for
me there with HTML5. I hadn't got round to trying Google Chrome on a
java-rich site. But the 32-bit version of Java was the one which I
downloaded and which didn't work for me.

Thanks for that, Paul. Where did you find out that the 64-bit version of
Java is also necessary? (This wasn't mentioned by Oracle in the Help.)

Hi Flor,
Both versions of JAVA are required if you are running a 64 bit OS and maybe
something like Google chrome or firefox on that system as these are 32 bit
browsers. Also there are both 32 and 64 bit versions of IE11 as well.
Depending on which version of JAVA is the default version will determine
which version updates automatically which is why from time to time if both
JAVAs are on the machine you will be prompted to manually update one of the
versions of JAVA.
Maybe completely uninstalling all versions of JAVA and reinstalling a single
version at a time to test it with the application that requires it might
yield some results.

Hi,
I’ve a friend who, not a list member, in his work, uses Java 7.71 (the last
fully accessible version) with JAWS16. However, his job requires that he
update to the latest, not-very-accessible, Java 8.91 [latest] update, since
everybody else in the Department is using it. He works with a financial
package, running reports or creating purchase orders. The package requires
the JRE to be running. HTML5 isn’t an option, as that has been discussed and
(apparently) dismissed. I do have some experience of Java not working,
myself, as I have a app or two that won’t work because JAWS is [no longer]
reading the Java interface. [Here I’m primarily referring to the 32-bit
Java. My friend tells me that, in order for JAWS to work with Java, both the
64-bit and 32-bit versions of Java need to be installed. (Why this is, I don’t
know. I hadn’t come across that till he told me last evening.)]
Thus, my question here in the subject line.
We’d appreciate any assistance.
