Hi there,

Dealing with the question about the voice first. In theory there's no reason
it couldn't be done. There are also third party voices, not made by Apple
available for the Mac. Infovox market voices made the Acapela company for use
on a Mac.

Ok now dealing with your specific question about the web. You can explain it
this way, and I'll try to relate visuals that a sighted user can see to how a
voiceover user gets the same information.

Safari has a toolbar running across the top of the screen. It has buttons like
back, forward, the place where you type the address etc. Below this is the
area where the web-page appears. Now how voiceover differs from jaws, is that
you have to "interact" with each separate area of the window. So to read a
webpage, use vo-right-arrow til you hear the voice saying "html content". Now
interact with this area but pressing vo-shift-downarrow. Then use
vo-right-arrow to read across (and down) the page.

There are shortcut keys your daughter can use, but this will do to get her
started.

Loads of other mac users might have things to chip in here but I reckon that
should be enough to get her up and running.

All the best,

Dónal
