Hi Susan,
I suppose it depends how you deleted the message.
Did you just use the delete key, which should just move it to the deleted
items folder or trash folder (different email programmes have different
names for these folders).
However, if you used the shift + delete key then this normally permanently
deletes the message and you won't be able to get it back.

I can't give a full answer but I do know one thing that might be relevant if
you're using Outlook. If you remove an email from your Outlook Inbox by
pressing the Delete key, it will be moved to your Deleted Items folder. But
if you remove it by pressing the Backspace key, it will be moved to the
archive. I can't remember how to access the archive.
