Hi, Some involved in the committee might find the below comments and ideas interesting. Just a thought but would Vics consider joining forces with BCAB or other similar organizations? I haven't heard much from them in a very long time. To me Vics doesn't seem to be very promenant any more. There are probably hundreds of organizations around the world each lobbying for better accessibility. IAVIT, the international association of Visually Impaired Technologists is a good example of a group that would love to join forces with Vics to create a louder voice. They have a good structure but they are suffering from a lack of interest. The state of access to technology is improving for some but it's rapidly deteriating for others. Unless more groups get together and loby companies like Microsoft and Google they will continue to release accessibility functionality in half measures. I have had some great success with Microsoft recently. They have made huge improvements to the accessibility of two of their system administration applications. It didn't take much work once I found the right person to talk to. Likewise within FreedomScientific. You would be surprised at the internal politics that I've heard of in the past few weeks. I've been told that only one person in there is actually pushing for support to business applications. This is because the company have completely lost touch with their user base. Not through a major fault with the company. It's mainly because the users of jaws don't provide enough organized feedback. The common theme that I've found from talking to companies about a lack of accessibility is very limited feedback from the users of assistive technologies. Complaining on Email lists, Facebook or Twitter isn't enough. We all need to make an effert to find the responsible people and get talking to them directly. Having a large lobbying group might make this easier.
