Hi Flor and Melonie,

Might I suggest to Mel, that she should get in contact with Paul Traynor at support@xxxxxxx in the new year and Paul will provide a plan of action and supply links to programs like virus checkers, spam removers and suggest a regular route of action. Paul's support as a teck specialist is is invaluable especially in that as he is a vip as well he knows the difficulties of working in the environment and has the capabilities of being able to provide solutions whether directly via phone instruction or email instructions to get a person out of the problem they are immersed in or getting accustomed to new software and the vageries associated with it. So to one and all Happy Christmas and looking forward to a bright new year for all
with anticipation of what it will bring into our lives.

Hi,

Do a Didsk Cleanup again in a few months' time, or if symptoms start to reoccur.

Merry Christmas.

Hi Gerhard and Flor.

Thank you so much for your emails. I have done all the things you
recommended and can watch videos again. I know it is not a solution for
ever, but it really did the job for now. Thanks again!

Mel.

Hi Mel,

Disk Cleanup might help.

Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > then press the letter D until Disk Cleanup is highlighted, and then press ENTER, to begin the process. Let it delete all that it finds checked. It will delete all temporary files, including temporary Windows files. It could take up to, or slightly more than, a quarter of an hour to commplete. You might be surprised how much is stilll in the Recycle Bin, if you haven't emptied it lately. Likewise the Windows Temp folder. Then you could do a ScanDisk, and a defrag (as has beeen suggested)

Hi Ronan and all.

The computer is 8 years old and still runs with Windows XP. There is no
anti-virus software on it at the moment. I know this is really a silly thing to do and it is only a question of time until it will no longer work, but at the moment it is all I have got so I would like to keep it going as long as
I can. I just thought there might be a tool I could use temporarily to
increase the memory or something like that.
Th
e download folder is empty and I got rid of all the software I don't need.
It is still very slow, though.

Mel.

Hi Melanie,

How old is your PC and what version of Windows are you running?
How much memory do you have?
Is your anti-virus software up to date?

Just a few thoughts...

If you have a large number of files in your downloads folder, some
anti-virus programs scan all these files every time you open your
browser and this can slow down browsing. Clearing out the downloads
folder might help if you haven't done this already.

If you have more than one anti-virus program running at the same time,
this can slow down the system also.

Ronan

Hi all.

My computer has recently become very slow. I can't even play files from
Youtube or other sources on the internet.

What I have done so far is I have deleted those programmes I don't ever use

from my computer. Also, I have deleted all temporary internet files and
those files in "my documents" I do no longer need.

I have a feeling this has improved the situation a little, but it's still
not goo enough.

Is there something else I could try to make the system faster again?

Mel.
