[vicsireland] Mp3 Docks

Hi
Ipod and other brands of mp3 docking units are they all compatible with
each other. Will a sony mp3 player sit into a Philips or ipod dock.
I know it should be possible to use a lead connection to play most items
through the dock but was wondering about the slot in method.
Was in a shop at the weekend and saw ipod Dockers selling fairly cheaply
but was afraid to chance purchasing as the guy in the shop didn't seem
to know too much about them.
Any help appreciated.
