Prompted by your question, I have just turned on UI automation for Word and for
the Windows console because I use the Windows key a lot to find items on my PC.
I noticed that Word and Excel are now much snappier. At first, Eloquence, my
voice of choice, was suddenly pronouncing "S's" with a shrill sibilance.
However, today, that sibilance is not present even though the UA settings are
still active.

Hi all,
I have been experimenting with one of the experimental features in NVDA
recently to improve the responsiveness of NVDA with Microsoft Word.
Under the Advanced Settings in NVDA you can turn on a feature to use UI
Automation to access Microsoft Word controls.
This definitely seems to speed up the responsiveness of Word/NVDA. I am using
Windows 10 with Office 365 with Word 2016 and NVDA 2019.3
One thing that I noticed is that some things are announced incorrectly for
example it says read only when in an editable Word document. This was so
annoying that I put an entry into the speech dictionary to ignore "Read only".
Otherwise, though, I see a big improvement in speed of usage. Just wondering if
anyone else has had a look at this UI Automation feature.
