It's worth mentioning that if you buy a mobile USB broadband datacard from Vodafone or 3 mobile or anyone else for that matter, you have the statutory 14 day cooling off period to try it out in. If it doesn't work to your satisfaction, you can return it to the shop where you bought it within 14 days undamaged and in its original packaging and get a full refund, no questions asked. I tried both the Vodafone and the 3 mobile versions but neither of them worked for me. The vodafone one didn't have a driver to run it on an Intel Mac and the 3 mobile one just didn't work well enough. At home there was zero reception and on the train from Sligo to Dublin it was intermitent at best.

Hay Stuart, that's very interesting.
I had that vodafone service but I got rid of it. 1, the modem isn't
compatible with Vista and 2, the speed was absolutely terrible.

Give Clear wire a shot, It's very easy to get up and running, it
doesn't need any software if you have a computer with a network card
and it has good coverage through out the country.

I am not subscribed to it but I've borrowed my sisters modem / router
a few times and got reasonably adiquit results from it.

It does need to be plugged in though.

Hope that helps.

Hi folks,

Just to add here, that mobile broadband, especially with Three Ireland, is
now certainly a reality and not as expensive as you might think.

I use Vodafone's flavour of that product for work when travelling, but I learned last week that Three offer twice the capacity and probably a far
better speed for half the price!

The Vodafone package is less than satisfactory.

For more info on Three's broadband go to

Stuart.

Hi folks!
I would be interested in any info on what experiences people have made with different wireless broadband options. I also want to avoid paying a monthly rental for a phone line I'm not using otherwise - and I'm also not inclined
to get a package involving TV channels.
I want to leave Irish Broadband as their up and down rates are a bit slow and more importantly because they have frequent connection break- downs. I tried the Clear Wire website, but to my amazement their coverage checking
tool says that my area, Dublin city centre, is not covered.
Can someone please provide me with the ideal solution? ;-) Cheers, Robbie

Greetings Ed,

Free access sounds good!!

As a matter of interest How is Wireless in your neck of the woods?

Apart from hotels and such like, are there locations covered by wireless
broadband that you are aware of?

Sounds like a great idea to have a pint in West Cork!
Kind regards,

Tony Sweeney.
