Hello All, As many of you may know, an Updated Irish Language Braille code has recently been ratified by INBAF (The Irish National Braille andAlternative Formats Association) www.inbaf.ie. A test implementation of the Updated Irish Braille code is now available for use with Braille Displays used with the free NVDA screen reader. The implementation provides translation tables for Grade 1 and Grade 2 Irish Language text to Braille. We are now appealing for volunteer testers! In order to implement the test software, you will need a recent version of NVDA installed, and a Braille Display that is compatible with NVDA. NVDA is available free of charge from www.nvaccess.org. The test period will continue for a number of months. Once testing is successfully completed and all required changes are made to the system, it will then be implemented live. For info, the Updated Irish Braille code is being tested and will be implemented, in the LibLouis system www.liblouis.org. This is a free open source library that is used by the NVDA and Orca screen readers, BookShare.org and BrailleBlaster. Once implemented live, Updated Irish Braille will become available over time in production to these software systems. If you are interested to test the Updated Irish Braille system, Please respond to this list or get in contact with me directly to recieve the test software and simple installation instructions. Note that once implemented live, Updated Irish Braille will be bundled with NVDA and will not require a separate install. Many thanks, Ronan on behalf of INBAF Irish Braille sub-committee =========================================================== The vicsireland mailing list To unsubscribe at any time send a mail to: vicsireland-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe", without the quotes in the subject of the message.
