Hi Edel, I just realised who I am addressing: we spoke a few months ago on the phone when you were doing an open day in the independent living unit in Stradavoher. apoligies vics members, no I'm not rambling just making the personal connection. Edel, I was recently in the same problematic situation as you but I've just had the Eurika moment and successfully burned video clips to a dvd. I had been pestering Paul getting links to download software and wondering why the software wasn't working when on explaining the problem to an acquaintance who mentioned:"look at the front of your p.c. what does the text under the dvd/cd door say" - It said cd/dvd player no mention of the word burner so before you even start working on your file make sure you are using a p.c. or laptop that has an actual dvd burner. I'll include the links to the programs and instructions that Paul Traynor sent me: Here's the one I use when I want to merge say 2 or 3 episodes of a series onto a DVD and it's great. It's called DVDFlic and the download link is below with basic instructions on how to use it to merge 2 or more AVI files into a DVD ready for burning to blank DVD disk. http://www.jaws-users.com/programs/CDOrDVD/dvdflick_setup_1.3.0.7.exe 1. Open up the DVDFlic program from the shortcut on your desktop. 2. Now you'll need to use the jaws cursor a little so "Route jaws to PC, jaws key + Minus key on the numpad" 3. Move up to the top of the DVDFlic screen using keys, "numpad 9", followed by numpad 7 for home. 4. Now using keys, "Numpad 2" move down a line or two until you come to the line in DVDFlic which contains an "Add button" and move onto it using the "numpad 6". 5. Once on the "Add button" perform a left click using the "numpad slash key". This will now open up the familiar edit box asking you where are the files you wish to add to your DVD project. 6. Press the keys, "Shift + Tab" once till you are on the folders list and here arrow up and down till you locate the folder that the AVI files are stored then press enter. 7. Now in the Folder of the AVI files, choose the first AVI file you wish to add to the project by pressing enter key on it. 8. Once the first file is added, repeat the above steps again and again till all the files you want are added into the project but keep in mind that you can run out of disk space on the blank DVD disk quickly when all the files are added. For example I can fit approx. "Three 25 minute shows" onto the average blank DVD. Note: once you have all the files that you want in the project added then locate on the DVDFlic screen the "Create DVD button" and left mouse click on it to begin the merge and create process. The disk will not be burned at this point, this is only the process of adding the AVI files together into a DVD format ready for later burning to disk. The finished project will be located within a folder called "DVD" which in turn will be located within your "My Documents" folder. You will need a separate software to burn to a DVD disk. Now for burning to disk I use a nice little piece of software called "DVDSanta". Just download from the below link and then unzip it somewhere onyour machine. Install it and a shortcut will be placed on your desktop. Here's the link to download; http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1040060/dvdSanta%204.50.zip 1. Open up DVD Santa from the desktop. 2. Straight away you'll have a "list of buttons", press the "Tab key" approx. five times and here press the spacebar. Note: You can label these buttons at a later date using jaws. 3. An edit box appears asking for the location of the new DVD files you wish to burn to disk, press the keys, "Shift + tab" once and here arrow through the folders till you reach "My Documents\DVD" and press the enter key. 4. Now arrow to the sub folder called "Video_TS" and press the enter key again". 5. Now arrow to the first file in this folder and press the enter key and a new DVDSanta screen will load up. 6. Here you can locate an edit box to type a name for the new DVD you are creating and then if you tab around you'll come to the "burn button", press the spacebar on this to begin burning to disk and don't forget to have the blank DVD disk already in the drive. ** I had a problem extracting the files so paul responded: First download the file called "DVDSanta". Next download a proper zip utility like 7-zip and install it before trying to open the DVDSanta file. I have given you a direct link below to 7-zip. Remember, install 7-zip first. Next, arrow down through the folder where you previously downloaded DVDSanta and then press the Application key on it or shift + F10. Arrow down to the "7-zip" sub menu then right arrow in here and then arrow downt o "extract files and press enter key. You may be asked where you wish to unzip the files from DVDSanta Too, just press enter to have them unzipped into the folder where you normally download files from the internet. Once the DVDSanta folder has been unzipped go into it and press enter key on the DVDSAnta execuitable and follow the installation instructions. Now you will have a DVDSanta shortcut on the desktop, use this to open up DVDSanta and use the instructions to burn to disk which I previously sent you. Link to 7-zip; http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1040060/7z465.exe At This point I should mention that we had a discussion on the use of Windows Movie Maker as I had discovered the short cut keys and imported my files. using jaws and the movie maker shortcut keys I put everything together and having my laptop upgraded lately the technician had included the free X.P.burner which worked after some familiarisation. before I get into any instructions,; 1. Are you using a computer with a d.v.d. burner. 2. do you have a u.s.b. connection from your video camera to your pc that opens up a folder on the computer screen showing the recorded files? 3. Do you think we should talk off list at this point if yes is the answer to all previous questions? I think you may have my mobile phone number on your database in Roscrea if not Email me and I'll give you my mobile number or we can make some kind of arrangements. to help you with your video project.
