Hi Gerard,
Thanks for your email. I do have an iPhone and have tried using the
apps Ariadne GPS and Sendero. I didn't have much luck in using these
apps as when I tried to add land marks to favourites I never got
alerted when I was approaching them and I think I followed all the
steps for setting it up correctly as I followed the instructions given
on the manual.

I used the trekker Breeze a few weeks on a mobility lesson, I found it
easier to use and found that it gave me a lot more relevant
information such as what street I was on, the intersections I was
approaching and some information on them. I was also able to record
land marks on my root and when I came near these on my way home
Trekker informed me. If I needed to press the where am I button,
explore or record a land mark I found this easy to do as all the
buttons are large, well spread out rather than taking the phone out of
my pocket and trying to locate different areas on a touch screen. I
think that I would also find using the iPhone in this senario time
consuming and more distracting as I am a long cane user and would need
to stop up to check things. The trekker also has the option to record
a root but I didn't get to see how this works yet so I can't comment
on it until I have another mobility lesson. From reading up on info
about the trekker I think you can also hold down a button and once you
have a root recorded it reverses the root for you but I also need to
test out this option.

I do love the iPhone and use it for practically everything but
sometimes I think pieces of technology are needed for better
ifficiency. I will try using the iPhone apps again and I would also
appreciate it if you could email me Pat McCarthys number. If you do
get an iPhone and would like to try out Ariadne GPS here is a link to
the user manual:

Regards
Mairead
