(Since your sighted assist saw text, and if you have Kurzweil 1000 or some other OCR package, try opening the pdf with it. (If you can't open the pdf directly with another program, if your version of k1000 is not current, print it - in k1000's case, use the KESI Virtual Printer. the OCR won't be perfect, but may be good enough.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Flor Lynch" <florlync@xxxxxx>

Vincent,You mentioned that it is a book. is it a commercial e-book, or one in the public domain? The latter would be fairly straightforward to deal with, using K1000, etc. However, if it is a commercial e-book: then you will probably need a program like Adobe Digital Edition to deal with it. And that is not very accessible. In such cases, basic accessibility has been superseded. Kurzweil 1000 will ask for a password to open the file, no matter what you do. If those circumstances pertain, a way out is to contact the publisher or the author and ask for an accessible copy - particularly if you paid for the book. that, or a return of your money.----- Original Message -----From: "Vincent stack" <vts@xxxxxxxxxx>To: "vip students" <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, November 16, 2010 11:18 PM Subject: [vicsireland] adobe question hello againi have a 375 page pdf book. i am trying to open it and it is telling me "alert blank document". i have sighted assistance that is telling me that the document is there with text on it. i have also tried to do a save as text and that is not working. does anyone know what i need to do to save this as a text document please. many thanks.regards Vincent Vincent =========================================================== The vicsireland mailing list To unsubscribe at any time send a mail to: vicsireland-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxwith the word "unsubscribe", without the quotes in the subject of the message. To contact the moderator send mail to: tim.j.culhane@xxxxxxxxx For mor information on the Visually Impaired Computer Society visit: http://www.vicsireland.org
