Hi robbie and susan, You'll find a review of the Pure Sonus 1XT on the Blind Cool Tech site. There are, in fact, two reviews. That is to say, a review of the radio (with the male voice,)from January last year, and a shorter review (of the female voice,) from last May. I've heard from a friend in London, who owns 2, that the receiver is no longer available, though. Check out: www.blindcooltech.com and do a search for Sonus. You can also check the Pure Digital home page at: www.puredigital.com for info specific to the radio, check out: http://www.puredigital.com/Products/product.asp?Product=VL-60751 Robbie: It's good to know some DAB transmissions are still being made here, wasn't sure of the position! hope this helps, Eamonn "Sandberg, Robert" <robert.sandberg@xxxxxxx> Sent by: vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx 20/02/2007 14:28 Please respond to vicsireland To: <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> cc: Subject: [vicsireland] Re: didgetal radios Hi Susan! I have the Pure Sonus 1XT, which has a very pleasant speech output. It's a very good radio made for the bed´room. I say that because of a couple of its features. It does work in the Republic. However, it does not have a Text To Speech synthesizer. It can only speak the station names available in the UK. Here in the Republic,, or anywhere else, it spells the station's name, I.E. l y r i c f m. I can only receive R T é stations. The clock is set automatically via the radio signal. It has to be said, that the clock signal in the Republic for some reason is a Minute late. The other day I overslept, because the signal apparently had been deactivated all together. I couldn't get a station nor the time. This was a temporary glitch, but you may want to rely on an extra alarm clock if punctuality counts in your job. The radio itself is easy to handle and fully accessible. It has 2 alarms which can be set for week days or weekends. It has an optical output for recording which I haven't tried yet and it has a data input for software updates. So perhaps when DAB is taken more serious over here, it will be possible to download local station names to it. As for the bedroom, I didn't say that because of the sticker that came with it, saying "Touch my handle to hear me talk". A sticker that now adorns my office desk. Yes, a brief touching of the metal handle will tell you the time and 2 brief taps will tell you the alarm settings. The reason I said it's made for the bedroom is that the speech output is very low and soft. It's more like a gentle murmur. Also the sleep mode slowly fades out the sound, so as not to rouse you from your slumber by switching it off abruptly.
