RTÉ occasionally run digital radio trials. (There was one being run in the
Dublin/Louth area, perhaps it was a few months ago.) The radios sold in
ireland are those manufactured for the UK and irish market, and I heard that
they were not happy with how things are not developing digitally in the ROI.
Yes, you can receive digital radio in Northern Ireland. .

Edd, I like it. AS far as I know no area within the 26 counties can receive
a signal from them. I am not sure about the north though. What is the point
in them trying to sell your friend one if he/she can't use it? Surely that is
a misleading thing to do as I am pretty sure that he could return the product
for a full refund as it could not be used at the time of purchase. Maybe on
that little point I might be wrong I don't know.

  Cheers, Nicky.

Hi nicky, I am pretty sure that you are right . Certainly at this end of
the country, cork, they are no use. A friend of mine went to buy one in cork
city and on enquiring if it would work where he lived he was told that yes of
course it would it would get FM radio fine. He asked why they were selling
this radio for something like three times the price of an equivalent straight
FM radio and was told that people wanted to buy them and that they would be
ready when it was possible to receive digital signals. He asked when that
would be and was told with a perfectly straight face, the training of sales
staff is getting better, that no one knew, but it might be soon!

Hi Susan, when I was at sight village 2 years ago I saw one that talks.
I can't remember what stand it was at though.

Digital radios can't be used here in the republic as far as I know.

      Cheers, Nicky.
