Thanks Tony, you have made things a lot clearer So Now I just need to download a media player with the capabilities of editing to edit my Bill o'herlihy - p.j. Gallagher naked camera snatch. It's a hoot, "okey dokey" losing it in the back of a taxi and swearing like you know what! I never knew Cork people knew how to curse!! Hi Gerry,

Can anyone explain my incomprehension between "wma" and a ".wave" file.

A .wav file is an uncompressed sound file. A simple song ripped from a CD to .wav may take up to 100MB or more.

A .wma file is a compressed audio file, which is very similar to an mp3. Depending on the level of compression, a .wma file could be as small as a couple of megs, or up to maybe 10MB as a quality sound compressed audio file.

Which file contains the most recording space W.M.A. OR .WAVE.

A 5MB .wav file would maybe contain a few seconds of quality audio... where as a 5MB .wma file could contain a complete song, compressed at 256KBPS.

If I was recording 60 minutes of audio which would be the smaller file type for cdrom

You'll fit far more audio on a CD ROM if it's compressed to .wma (but I bet you've guessed that at this stage!).

An audio file saved as .wav will have virtually no loss of quality. The file squeezed down to .wma or .mp3 will sacrifice some fidelity, but depending on the level of compression this may be indiscernible to the human ear (you would find it very difficult to tell a .wav file apart from a .wma file compressed at 320KBPS for example).

Best wishes,

Tony

Hi Can anyone explain my incomprehension between "wma" and a ".wave" file. I hve a voice recorder and I thought by sending a recording to my p.c. I might be able to edit in the sound wave player in Accessories/entertainment. But it looks like I'll hve to go on line and find a media player that has editing facilities etc. . Which file contains the most recording space W.M.A. OR .WAVE. If I was recording 60 minutes of audio which would be the smaller file type for cdrom Ta. Gerry.
