[vicsireland] Re: dvd plays on laptop but not on dvd player

A few more possible explanations off the top of my head:

1) the DVD player doesn't support dvd -r (which is unusual)

2) the way the data is written to the disk doesn't allow for decoding on
the DVD player

3) It's not a real DVD quality disk that's being created (maybe the
software is generating the video files in a format that is viewable on a
PC only - windows media for example).

Hope this helps,

Ciaran

Hi Paul,

Just a wild guess here, but perhaps his dvd player has some sort of
copyright protection which prevents the dvd being played, or perhaps
the dvd player doesn't support the dvd encoding used, i.e. it is
encoded using the american dvd standard.

        hi folks
wonder have any of ye got a resolve for this.
a friend with a video camera is trying to play video footage on
his dvd player with no success.
1 any video footage he takes is transferred onto a chip on his
video camera.

2 he hooks up the video camera or chip and transfers the footage
to his laptop.

3 the footage now saved on the laptop will play on the laptop.

        but

4 the problem arises when he burns the footage onto a blank dvd,
he uses a minus r type.

the burned dvd will play on his own laptop or anyone elses but
it will not play on his dvd player.

        any one any ideas

        many thanks.

        Paul H
