[vicsireland] dvd plays on laptop but not on dvd player

wonder have any of ye got a resolve for this.
a friend with a video camera is trying to play video footage on his dvd player
with no success.
1 any video footage he takes is transferred onto a chip on his video camera.
2 he hooks up the video camera or chip and transfers the footage to his laptop.
3 the footage now saved on the laptop will play on the laptop.
but
4 the problem arises when he burns the footage onto a blank dvd, he uses a
minus r type.
the burned dvd will play on his own laptop or anyone elses but it will not play
on his dvd player.
any one any ideas
