Hi Robbie, Check out the below url for details on the travel pass. I believe that some private companies have opted into the scheme, but they are not obliged to. You should check with the department of social and family affairs for a list of private operators which are in the scheme. Note: you may need to copy and paste the below url into your browser as it could break across 2 lines. http://www.oasis.gov.ie/retirement/benefits_and_entitlements_for_older_peopl e/free_travel.html?search=blind+travel+pass Tim -----Original Message----- From: vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Sandberg, Robert Sent: 19 June 2006 09:22 To: vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vicsireland] free travel pass Hi folks! Can anyone tell me where I can read up on the legal status of the travel pass? Especially who is compelled to accept it and who isn't. I have one, not the blue bus pass, but the one that's valid for country-wide public transport. This morning the driver of my bus to work said he could not accept the pass and that I would have to pay him. I have to say that it is a private bus company, but I was under the impression that the pass covered those too. He then said that they were not public transport. I would dispute that, because privately owned they may be, but they still transport members of the public. After all, anyone can use that bus. You don't have to have a membership card to get on it. Hence in my oppinion they provide public transport. Please let me know if I'm wrong about this, or where I can find legal information. Cheers, Robbie
