I agree that it is tedious to load a file, try it using the virtual

But a quick preview could take a lot of work and risk breaking something,
so it's worth considering it with care.

This would indeed be a *major* work, and is unlikely to be as useful as it
seems.
Thanks to Paul's extremely creative and original use of randomisation, it is
unlikely you'll get much of an idea of what many sounds do from an automated
system. The poster child is Cal's favourite, Overdrive. It sounds very
different across the keyboard, and particularly on the higher notes, it can
take 40 presses of the *same* note for the pattern to repeat! More if there are
other AddSynth notes playing too.
The bank structure mimics hardware synths (which was Paul's original reference)
and especially if you use the RH mouse button is extremely fast to traverse.
Load times are typically less than 50mS - so faster than you can click.
Having said that, I can see the benefit of adding an 'import bank' feature. The
vast majority of instrument patches in the wild are in banks, and once copied
in would become instantly available (like the rest), to the GUI, the CLI, and
MIDI.
Once imported you can modify, group, rename, rearange to your hearts content.
I'll put that on the to-do list for the first version of 2018 :)
Currently, the default set is over 700 instruments in 24 banks.
