Sound), and in a catch 22 the instruments can only be RE-named after they've

Click on the instrument name field with the right hand mouse button and it will
open an editor for the name. You only need to change one character to make it
savable. However this identifies an oversight. If you go into the editor and
change engine controls 'Simple Sound' gets changed to 'No Title', and this can
be saved. I guess we should make that the same for top level controls.
Blocking the saving of 'Simple Sound' was done for two related reasons.
Initially there was no name at all by default, and people were saving them like
that. The problem then was once re-loaded you had no idea what was there, or
even if there was anything at all except the basic sound.
Also, to save time and space, when saving patch set or state files, no 'empty'
instruments are included, and we use that name as a quick way to identify such
an instrument - the alternative would be to compare every single element of the
instrument against it's default setting :(
