Sorry for the delayed response.

I'm concerned about it, this fix sounds ideal! It doesn't stop me making music,
but many of the sounds in my banks have never been used due to this problem...

> > I recently double checked, and you're right. Yoshimi doesn't show
un-numbered
> > instruments. I don't know when or why that happened, but these days
neither
> > Zyn nor Yoshi will create them without numbers so I'm inclined to
think it's a
> > once off situation and probably not worth doing much about it.
>
> Nope. I was wrong.
>
> They both save un-numbered voices if you directly save an individual
instrument,
> rather than saving it to a bank. So presumably people have been manually
> building up banks. Very naughty :)
>
> So... what to do?
>
> I don't recall Cal saying he was dropping support for this, but I'll have
a
> look through the code and see what the implications are and what would
happen if
> it was re-instated. I suspect it could possibly make instrument/bank
loading
> slower.
>

OK, I've had time to look at this. First, is anyone actually concerned about
it?

It is easy to apply a fix that allows un-numbered instruments in a bank
provided there is no hyphen '-' at the forth character, with no significant
performance change. Is that good enough?

If not, I can fully re-instate these instruments, but the testing becomes less
elegant.
