Ray,

Memory's kicked in. I think it was Steve Tyler, speaking at Techshare 2003 who spoke about
the Bookshare UK franchise issue.

Well folks, there hyou have it. I trust what Tink says about Bookshare seeking a UK partner is right. So, why hasn't someone steepped up to meet the challenge? Maybe our favourite Institution feels unequal to the job, but that's never stopped them taking on a challenge in the past.

Its the same old story with this country. No one seems to have the energy
or comitment to get up and run with it. Maybe we've lost the plot so much
here that no one can be arsed. Only wish I had the energy qualifications
and whatever else it takes.

Taken the liberty of shortening this message by the way.

Yusef,

I guess we'll have to agreeably disagree about the Harry Potter books,
but that's what these lists are all about. *Grin.

"Its also about getting copyright sorted out so that we can have
something
along the lines of the bookshare service in this country."

I understood the changes to our copyright law should enable such a
service to be run in this country now. I believe what's lacking is an
organisation capable of, or prepared to make the investment in starting it
up. Bookshare, as far as I know, is looking for a UK franchise holder, so
the cards are all there, what we need now is a dealer.

Cheers,
Tink.
