I'm reading this lot backwards but, you are selecting the cells you want to format first?

For example, when I was doing a sheet last week to list my DVD's I put the highlighted cell as the very first and top one and then cursored down a few hundred lines and across a few columns so I had loads and loads of cells selected that would be altered when I formatted.

Hi Patricia,

For some reason I still can't get into the Format/Cells dialog - have made
sure I definitely finished the edit first.

With the scientific notation - so is that what shows up visually in the
cell? Is there a choice about how Excel displays this/how JAWS reads it?

Catherine

Hi Catherine,

Additional to George's reply:

thought

In this case, I'd say that you are still editing the cell -
you need to press Enter to complete the edit before you go
to the Format menu. Your cursor will have moved as a result,
so you'll need to go back to the correct column or row
before formatting. The representation you're hearing is the
scientific or exponential notation.

Hope this helps,
