Andy, like you, I bought the programme online and, as far as I remember
chose the standard installation. Someone showed me how to open fine reader
from Word and I've never looked back. I know that with all this computer
stuff, there are many ways of going about it to achieve the same thing, but
I tend to stick to one otherwise, I get in a muddle. Sorry for stating the
obvious but looks like you need a pair of eyes to tell you the message
flashing on the screen when the shark shuts up or perhaps you could start
Narator with windows key+u and listen for info. As a last resort you might
consider re-installing fine rreader making sure your scanner is plugged in
and connected to your pc when you are doing so. It and fine reader might
find a few word to say to each other and things might come right for you.
Nothing else I can think of as I'm not very technically minded. Hope you get
it sorted soon. Good luck!

Marie
p.s. In all this, always remember to alt tab to see all the windows on your
screen, sometimes Jaws loses focus because some windows calls it to
attention and you have to put it back where you want it to be.
