I agree David. We had a small shop in our High Street once upon a time that came out and installed TV equipment. But they sadly sold up, so we wouldn't have that luxury next time round.

Interestingly, my local tv shop did sell me the panasonic television and I asked them if they could get a Freeview box with AD for my other tv. Theysaid that none of the boxes they provided had AD on them, so they could nothelp. However, they installed my Panasonic free of charge, and came back again once I had the Logik box and installed it, free of charge.I could definitely have found the tv more cheaply online, but would not havehad the excellent after sales service. It is all a matter of choice. Where small shops cannot compete as far asprice is concerned, they can, and regularly do, offer very good after salessupport. They often install and set up for a moderate charge (if not included in the original price). It's just that a 26 inch doesn't sound too big compared to some of these sets that are doing the rounds at the moment. Did you need sighted assistance to switch on the ~AD? I can dreamthough.David -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx[mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On BehalfOf Jackie Cairns Sent: 20 February 2008 11:41 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Freeview set top boxes Hi David Thanks very much for the useful update. I don't needanother box at themoment because I use Sky which has AD turned on, and theNetgem which isstill functioning well. I've also got another ordinarybox that I pickedup in a sale before our Dixons closed down some years ago.It doesn't haveAD, but is useful for occasions like last night, when I neededto have theChampions League on every format I could find. So I hadSky showing theRoma versus Real Madrid game, the Netgem on Scottish TVshowing theLiverpool game (still smiling for that one,) and the spareFreeview box onITV 4 for the Olympiarkos versus Chelsea game. Better notforget FiveLive on the radio either ... yeah I know, I'm hopeless (smile.) You say you have a TV with Freeview carrying AD built-in?I know thereare a lot of TVs now with the AD facility incorporated, but wehaven't gotthat far yet as I'm hoping our current Sony continues to plodfor a while. Thanks for that though. You canset the box to beep every time a key is pressed, but Idon't think itbeeps when it finds a channel broadcasting audio description.I would not havethought that was worth another twenty pounds. I purchased the Logik for my upstairs tv which only hasthe basic fivechannels. Downstairs I now have a Panasonic Viera 26inch set and thisone has a freeview box built in, which does have audiodescription unlikemost set top boxes. also, you can set this one to have the ADon speakers orheadphones or both or neither. this is a good idea ifsomeone in theroom does not want to listen to the AD track.
