you are probably trying to log on with the administrator account. Makit the
account corresponding to your logon name instead.

Thanks for your response. Initially, things looked good as I followed your
instructions. I did indeed have a password check box checked. I unchecked
that. But on rebooting the system, I encountered an additional error window
telling me of some account error. So, now I had two problems instead of one.
I had to go back and undo the changes to the password checkbox.
Unfortunately
I still have that list box on restart, and often it tells me that I have 10
messages. Very strange. I think a format might be called for here.

I have read this solution and it seems to work but not sure why. Anyone any
more info on the control command?
Click start> run " control userpasswords2 " click OK. Click the account you
want to log on automatically. Untick the box "users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer". Click apply. If you don't have a
password
just click OK> Ok and you're done.
Choosing administrator account as the default on windows xp home causes an
error so just use yor account.that you normally log on with.
Reboot will take you straight to your desktop.

When I turn on my XP Home computer I am taken onto a logon window. This
window presents a list box with Peter Logue in it. I have to highlight this
and press enter before the desktop will launch. Can anyone tell me how I

rid of this. Also, sometimes, that list box contains the words, Peter Logue
has 10 new messages, and I can't seem to get rid of this one. Any idea what
