Hi Jackie -

I held the combination for 10 seconds and let go, and then connected it back to my laptop as I wasn't sure of battery status, and Voice Over came up talking after about 20 seconds, it might have been a bit longer, wasn't counting, but it works, and like I said, just holding the 2 buttons to 10 seconds appears to be long enough -

Hi Alex

To be on the safe side, hold for approximately two minutes. That was
Apple's advice when I needed to do it to my Nano. It sure as hell seems a
long time when you are hoping to goodness it works at the end of the day.

Jackie, it certainly works. Unfortunately however, there's no audible
indication to let you know when you've held the buttons for long enough.
Cheers
Alex

Hi Andy

Thanks for the tip about this combination to reset the Touch, I'll bear it
in mind if it goes silly on me.

Glad you are sorted.

Hi Jackie -

Thanks for the phone number, was going to use it when somebody else told me
that holding down both the power and home buttons for about 10 seconds,
would achieve a hard reset. done this, and hurrah! My Touch is back in
dialogue with me.

Much relieved -

Andy

Hi Andy

It has probably locked up, not actually died. If this is so, you
would need to have it reset. My Nano fifth generation occasionally
does this for no apparent reason. When it does, I have to do a
combination of the wheel and reset it. The iPod Touch would have a
different combination seeing that it has no wheel. I rang Apple and
they told me how to do this, so it might be worth your while
contacting them and choosing technical support from the spoken menu
when they answer. I found them very helpful to be honest.

Perhaps it hasn't died cos, when I hook it up, I can see it under
Itunes, and go in to a play list on the Touch, and using my laptop,
actually play music from that play list. Like I say, I'm doing this
from within Andy's IPod, under devices from within Itunes, so not
playing the tracks from the Itunes Library, but from the play list on
the Pod. I still don't know why the Pod appears to be dead, I've had
eyes on it, and been told there is nothing on screen, and pressing the
power button, volume up and down buttons, and home button, makes no
difference! -
