Hi John,

It is kind of like the difference between Window-Eyes and Narrator.
Narrator gives basic speech, but has virtually no configurability, whereas
Window-Eyes does. Same with Talks. The inbuilt speech for Nokia, only
reads out text messages, it does not read out the edit fields when you edit
a contact for example, so it is pretty impracticable for a blind person to
rely on it. Then there is the voice itself. Have you heard Nokia speech?
Finally, Nokia speech only comes on while voiceaid is loaded. This is a
Nokia application. Unload it and it is gone. It also won't autostart, so
when you turn the phone on, no speech. You have to go into the menus and
turn it on again. This is really a shortcut not worth taking.

All the best

Steve

Subject: [access-uk] Nokia Speech V Talks

Hello list

I have been asked by my blind sister about getting a phone, such as the
Nokia T45, which has inbuilt speech on it. I don't know how much speech
these give the user.

I use Talks and can tell her about that.

Does anyone know what the pros and cons are for each for a blind person?

Thanks in advance.

 Regards, John
