You continue to miss the point.
The BBC have already have replaced the Window Media streams which work fine for the time being but are actively tryi trying to devalue the content by
1. Failing to sign post the existence of the streams.
2. Their decision to axe the most popular content from these streams anyway.
3. Threatening to withdraw even these in the near future.
All of these steps are entirely avoidable.

In terms of outdated technology I again think ITS is a spurious point.

As I say the BBC have wanted to get rid of long wave for years but have not been able to do it despite its aging and expensive nature because of the political row which would occur in those areas where only long wave continues to work.

We are in an entirety analogous situation.
Currently there are no equivalent specialist devices for blind people which can provide the newer content. Why should a person who purchased a long wave radio set 20 years ago be protected by the BBC but those of us like me who spent £365 on a Plextalk Device last December be suddenly and absurdly accused of having outdated technology?
It is not as if we are using black and white television sets.

The BBC can only get away with this because of the lesser noise we make about these issues.

Hi David,

it's not the BBC's fault if the equipment is out of date though is it?
Also, they gave manufacturers a year to sort it out.

I have no issue with them abandoning a format as long as the replacement
stream is of equivalent value. This they have not bothered to do as they
clearly just want to bully people away from the format. Moving on should
not leave people behind who do not have an alternative technology
currently available.
The delivery of radio by long wave is far more ancient technology but
there is no restlessness to abandon this as they would not get away with
it. It is only our minority status which makes their strategy in any
sense politically acceptable.

Hi David,

They are not just picking on blind people with their specialist devices
though. Windows Media streaming is very old if not ancient tech, and they
need to move on I guess.

Yes it is clear that the BBC want to dissuade people from using these
streams. Hence their lack of signposting to these alternative streams
and the abandonment of online football and Cricket through these
streams, compared to the service provided on the previous Windows Media
format.

Given that these sports feeds are by far the most popular spoken word
radio content the BBC broadcast this seriously affects the credibility
of these so called replacement streams. The BBC themselves announce the
importance of this coverage for viable radio. during the last Ashes the
BBC announced that even on the long wave Radio 4 the radio audience
listening to the Ashes Cricket dwarfed any other radio 4 content. They
announced this on a Feedback program to explain why it was inconceivable
that they could accede to some request from Radio 4 listeners for
cricket to be removed and only hosted on Five Live Sports Extra.
Apparently it is necessary to protect cricket coverage for the Radio 4
Long wave audience but perfectly acceptable to remove it for blind folk
using specialist devices.

Hi

The Plextalk Pocket will play the BBC Shoutcast streams. I downloaded
them from the Mikesradioworld website.

Please write to me off-list if you need any more information.
