Hi Jackie,

Will asked the question and I believe it ws someone from
RNIB who said you had to wait for the HD to fill up before
you could delete programmes.

Know your products RNIB.

I thought some on the list were saying you couldn't delete
programmes until
the HD filled up? Thank God for sanity!! (smile).

Hi Jackie, who said you couldn't delete a programme? Of
course you can, just
press the red button when a programme in the library is
highlighted.

Hi Carol

Yes, I now have both and I'm happy too, mainly because
it's exactly for me
as it is for you, old school! (smiles).

In fact, I've now managed to record a couple of programme
series from the
EPG and, for those who said you couldn't delete stuff from
the HD, you
can.
We tried an experiment last night as I found it staggering
that you would
have to wait for the HD to fill up before you could delete
its contents.

We recorded, just for the hell of it, 10 minutes of
Channel Five news as
it
was just something short and sweet to try out. We were
watching something
else, so set a timer for it. When it started, we got an
audible
announcement while we were watching another channel.
After Britain's Got
Talent ended, which is what we were watching, we went to
see if the
Channel
Five news had come out, and so it had. Then we went into
the library and
deleted it. Our library was then empty, so I don't
understand what people
mean when they say you can't delete programmes from the HD
because the
instructions and those I followed clearly worked. It says
in the manual
that you can delete recordings and timers.

If I'm missing something, or have got this wrong, then
please accept my
apologies.

So far though, so good.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Jackie,

I know all about those days ... but do find it useful to
have both
BrailleNote and Braille hard copy instructions. Because
I'm "old school",

I
take in more reading hard copy but do like, once I know an
instruction
book
a little, to use the "Find" of the BN to get where I want
to get quickly.
Make sense! Probably not, but then never mind ... Now we
have both and
I'm
well happy!

Hi Carol

Well I'm having one of those days where everything
happens and
everyone comes at once, so I haven't had any real time to
play with my
new toy, and have been going round instead putting in
wireless keys
and ensuring BT works well.

I must say that the Apple products were the easiest to do
in this
regard, (no surprise there then), (smiles).

Madleen is very helpful, but the instructions should have
made her
explanation abundantly clear which they did not I have to
say. Never
mind, it's more or less sorted now.
Still waiting on Braille instructions too, but am using
my
BrailleSense to read it for now. It's fine, but you
can't beat hard
copy Braille to really jump about.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Jackie,

From my experience, it seems that, as Madleen so kindly
alerted me,
you have to plug in the box, then wait for the OK that it
wants to
proceed with a tune, then you press the blue button and
that did work
for me eventually! However, if you try pressing the blue
button too
soon then it doesn't appear to work and, anyway, how do
you know when
the screen is showing the message anyway? (I would like
to have seen
the input clearer for us at that stage.)

I gather, anyway, that you're now up and running and
that's a good
thing.

Have to set up my first recordings tonight, but we have a
problem with
our TV (which was there before we set up the
box) so we may not get what we want!

Hi Carol et al,

So glad you've raised this as I was going to. Our box
arrived
yesterday. We plugged the HDMI cable into the TV and
TVonics, and of
course the roof aerial. The problem is that Martin no
longer has
enough sight to read anything, but could just about
detect there was
some writing on the screen.
I pressed the blue button on the remote, but nothing
happened. There
was no speech, and I can't skip through the AV settings
on our TV as
I don't know where the AV button is on the telly's
remote control.

I was under the impression, obviously the wrong one,
that this
product spoke out of the box once it was plugged in.
According to
the instructions - and therein lies a real gripe with me
- you plug
in the leads, press the blue button and away you go.

As for the instructions, I was told a Braille copy of
these would be
sent with my box. When it arrived, there were no
instructions,
except the standard print variety which, of course, were
of no
consequence to ourselves.
We downloaded a Word copy from the RNIB online shop and
have put them
onto my BrailleSense until the hard copy Braille
instructions arrive.

Until we get sighted assistance, I think we are stuck to
be honest.
We hear the box whirring, but can't go any further. I
have a feeling
that, when we turn on the TV, it jumps automatically to
the new box,
but it just doesn't speak, and I don't want to go
pressing buttons
here and there in case we make the situation worse.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Subject: [access-uk] TVonics Setup Questions

Hi all,

Well, thankfully my TVonics arrived today and I've tried
setting up
as follows:

My aerial cable (from outside) is in the Aerial in
socket, The other
aerial socket has the aerial between box and TV. The
HDMI cable
between TV and box as stated in instructions.

It does not state in the instructions whether you need
to tune the
box independently first, before putting on the TV, so
we've tried
tuning both ways. On each occasion, we've said OK to
tune, since
there doesn't seem to be any other option my friend can
see, and the
tuning has just gone on and on ... so we've turned off
the power to
the box, given it a good 20 seconds and tried again with
TV on, but
still no go!

In addition, when we first switched on, we pressed the
blue button,
as speech didn't automatically come on. We still
haven't managed to
get speech on as there seems to be no bypassing the
channel search.

Hopefully someone somewhere can pinpoint where we've
gone wrong,
advise of anything else I can do, and we can get up and
running very
soon.

Thanks for any advice for this poor novice who's never
set up a TV
and box before! <Smiles>
