I use one of those with a flat pannel but the buttons are well spaced making it 3 buttons in a row over the width of the pannel. I can set the time ok but easily forget the order the cooking levels go in, but luckily it always defaults to high power which is often what I want. I have nothing to do with the clock, wouldn't have a prayer and that's where a talking one would come in.
Overall yes I can bang in the time in minutes and press start but that's about it.

Still, others have decided they can get by with a cheapo model, preferably with a dial or feelable buttons, and simply use a separate timer.
