Phil, I seem to recall that Techno-Vision Systems sell a small gadget you plug
into the monitor socket of your laptop that stops the screen from going on so
you save battery life. It costs £25 I think. I suppose the handy thing with
that is you know your monitor is definitely off by using it, and you don't have
to keep going into various settings to quickly get it on again if a person with
sight needs to look at the screen.

  Hi,

I am after ways of prolonging the battery life on my Toshiba Tekra m3 and was
wondering if there is a way you can turn the screen off completely to save
power this way? if so would this make a difference to how Jaws performs? If
it is possible could someone give detailed instructions. I'm running jfw 8
with Win xp pro.

I have been into display settings and adjusted the time for when the screen
turns off after inactivity etc but I'm talking about not having the screen on
at all when running it via battery.

  with thanks,

  Phil
