Hi,

I am wondering whether you need the toshiba hotkey utility installed on the
laptop. If I press the function key and escape, it mutes the speakers,
press again and they come alive again. I think the blanking keypress is
part of the same setup. I will investigate further...

Karl

Hi,

The function key is the key to the right of the bottom left control key. I
can't seem to work out why sometimes it doesn't work and you have to do it
again before the screen blanks but if you can't see the difference I think
you will have to keep track on the battery level and notice if it increases.

Cheers
Karl

Hi,

You can turn the toshiba m3 screen completely off, although it can be a bit
hit and miss. Press function and F5. I sometimes have to press the buttons
twice to blank the screen but it does have a dramatic effect on the battery
life.

Cheers

Hi Phil.
You I don't think can completely turn off the screen but certainly you can
reduce the brightness which does seriously impact upon the battery life.
From memory I think function with page done turns it town and function with
page up turns it up. There is no audible feedback about the fact that it is
reducing so you'll need to get some sighted help to confirm that the desired

effect has been acheivged.

  Hi,

I am after ways of prolonging the battery life on my Toshiba Tekra m3 and
was wondering if there is a way you can turn the screen off completely to
save power this way? if so would this make a difference to how Jaws
performs? If it is possible could someone give detailed instructions. I'm
running jfw 8 with Win xp pro.

I have been into display settings and adjusted the time for when the
screen turns off after inactivity etc but I'm talking about not having the
screen on at all when running it via battery.

  with thanks,

  Phil
