yes, plug it in, and you get sound out of the connected headphones or
speakers connected to the soundcard. yank it, and it defaults to the

Enquiring for someone not subscribed here. How well does an external
sound
card work using USB on a laptop? Are there any makes to recommend or
indeed
avoid? And does the sound just default to the laptop's own on-board sound
once the external is disconnected? Forgive me, but I have absolutely no
idea how these things work, never having used one before.
