Hi Jackie,

Novation and Saffire do really good USB external soundcards. I have several Saffire fire wire careds and a novation USB and they're all great. The Saffire 6 has USB connectivity.

Enquiring for someone not subscribed here. How well does an external sound
card work using USB on a laptop? Are there any makes to recommend or indeed
avoid? And does the sound just default to the laptop's own on-board sound
once the external is disconnected? Forgive me, but I have absolutely no
idea how these things work, never having used one before.

Kind Regards,
