Sorry to send this to multiple lists, but I am not happy.
I live in Hemel Hempstead and went to vote today as is my right.
When I went to my local polling station I was presented with a tactile
device to assist me in making my vote.
I am sorry to say that neither the resident officer at the station or my
sighted some could work out how on earth is should be used to assist me in
voting.
I did, in fact, have to resort to asking my sighted son to cast my vote for
me.
This is not good enough.
I have spoken to the General Manager for electoral services of the local
council office to discuss this.
The only comment I could get from him was that the device has been approved
by the various blind organisations that have been contacted and it is a
nationally approved device.
He continued to say that, as a sighted person, he could not see that it
would be an issue.
Do other people on these lists find the tactile device a useful tool?
Regards, John
