I have a suggestion along similar lines to the one I made to clive Lever in a recent email to one or other list. Would it not be a more effective use of RNIB’s funds to either subsidise or fully fund access to mainstream services such as Audible rather than acting as a direct producer and provider of library services and content? I am sure the commercial audio book producers who already use the very good production and post-production facilities which RNIB owns produce books in greater volume and at less cost than RNIB talking books are produced. Also at present the RNIB has to enter into agreements with publishers to license their commercial recordings. surely paying part or all of members’ or customers’ Audible subs would be much more of a route one approach? I saw this when i sent informational messages about Window-Eyes betas and got jumped on.
