Hi
Can I take this a little further?
I have 2 pc's activated with Itunes and often plug in the Ipod shuffle and
get the question, do I want to associate my Ipod with the new library (as
it's already associated with the other pc's). If I say no then the Ipod
does not appear on the source list. Obviously if I say yes then it
associates it but also removes the content of the Ipod. Is there any way of
keeping the content on the ipod when linking to another pc then adding
files from the new pc to the Ipod?
Regards.
No, you go to the file menu in itunes, then select update song's on Sunil's iPod.

Re synchronising an MP3 spoken word file from your PC to the iPod if you
fall asleep, am I right that there's no synchronise command asuch? Would you
do it by finding where you were up to in the file in iTunes on your PC and
then copying that file to your iPod?

Hi
This last week there were two queries relating to bookmarkable MP3 files on
iPod products which I did not have time to answer.
First, Sunil wrote: done all this but how do I check that the file is reported asBH It is in the get info dialogue on the summary page. If you read it witha protected file before putting it on the iPod? I tried the 'get info' option' but its obviously not that...
the jaws cursor, it will advise you that the file is protected.
Now Damon was asking what a bookmarkable MP3 actually is.
If you put an MP3 file onto an iPod, stop it in the middle of the file and
switch the iPod off then back on again several hours later, you will still
be in the same place. That's fine if you do not move away from the file.
If you do, and return to it later, your place is lost and it returns to the
start point.
Bookmarkable files retain your place even if you move away from the file itself. That's the difference. In other words, if you have spoken word material as MP3 files, and music on the same iPod, it could be worth bookmarking the spoken word files so that you always keep your place, exactly the same as audible content in fact.
One more tip. If you are listening to a book and you fall asleep during the
playback (smile), all is not lost!
Assuming the jaws scripts are installed for iTunes, you can navigate to the
correct place within the audible book or MP3 file within iTunes on your
computer, and synchronise the file to the iPod. Then, using the iPod, you
can start the playback again from the chosen position.

Cheers Brian, done all this but how do I check that the file is reported as a protected file before putting it on the iPod? I tried the 'get info' option' but its obviously not that...

Hi Sunil
Did you know you can also make MP3 files bookmarkable within iTunes? Here's
how.
1. Import the MP3 into iTunes.
2. Select it and choose Convert to AAC.
3. Find the file with Windows Explorer. It should be in My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Unknown Artist\Unknown Album
4. Change the extension from m4a to m4b.
5. Import this renamed file into iTunes. The resulting file is bookmarkable.
At this point, you have three files with the same name in iTunes.
They
are
sorted with the most recent file
last, which is the one you want. Check the File Info option to make sure
the file is reported as a protected file. Then import it into your iPod.

I've been looking at some iRiver forums where posters have been speculating that the next version of the iRiver firmware will enable you to listen to Audible content on the player.
I'm persisting with the iPod Shuffle because it came free when I signed up to Audible and when it works properly, provides a great way of carrying hours of books around easily. In theory, its easy to upload and delete content from it, and it's a neat unit.
The iRiver is number one though, because you can store so much on it. When you're able to listen to Audible books on it it will be even better. Even when that happens though I suspect that you'll be unable to take advantage of what I'm sure is an iTunes feature, the ability for the player to remember where you're up to so you can listen to a bit, listen to a few albums or whatever and then skip back to the place you were up to in the Audible book without having to find it again from the beginning of the file.

hi Sunil
I Bought an IRiver and then thought I would try audible. It never
occurred to me that the books would not play on it as I wrongly
assumed they were in
MP3
format. Fortunately, I did not sign up for a plan so have decided to do
without audible books for the present. I was also disappointed that I
could
not copy
books onto CDs in MP3 format to get lots of information on one disk.
I have two books from their free trial, but will not be getting any more at the moment.
I am unwilling to get involved with Itunes, as I can do most things with other software and have more control.
