This happens regularly to me too! but doesn't actually seem to cause any
problems, in that I can disconnect and reconnect, or just close out of that
message window, and it seems to be ok.

Subject: [access-uk] iPod Shuffle - USB device not recognised
Hi, just plugged my iPod Shuffle into my PC and got a message about the usb
device not being recognised and that a USB device had malfunctioned. I
rebooted and I still get the message.
Its been ok since I got the Shuffle two weeks ago, I've tried plugging it
into another USB port too and it made no difference. The batteries were
charged up too. Any idea how I can figure out what, if anything has
malfunctioned and go about fixing it?...Was hoping to listen to sit outside
and listen to a brand new book!...ta
