You've been lucky with manuals, Martin.

When I downloaded the one for my printer, it was an executable, which the
Support guys assured me should open Adobe reader. Well it didn't!!

Moreover, the manual could not be accessed on the CD without first installing
the full software. Needless to say when I did that, there was half a ton of
bloatware which came with it.

It's an absolutely fabulous printer, but I'm afraid Canon's support failed
miserably. Their support person didn't even know how to install it on a
server, and kept insisting it needed to be connected to the router.

George.

George, I have always followed the install software first, plug it in later
route. That way there is no problem at all. Must say, trying to find
accessible manuals for these printers can be a pest though, I helped a friend
out with his wireless printer, and trying to find an accessible manual was a
real pain. Found one on the cannon site though, which was wonderful. Got
printer fixed, though haven't claimed the offered pint yet

Sorry, Ibrahim, but it is a dangerous assumption that "plug and play" will
always work. As I have this past week discovered.

I purchased a Canon Pixma MX925 which is a low cost ink jet, and not far short
of the only ink jet printer I could find which prints direct on to CDs and DVDs.

According to the "Quick Start" guide, I just plugged it in and off it went.
And accordingly, the last thing shown on the guide was to use the enclosed CD
to set it up.

Well, as I discovered after a call to Canon, I should really have installed the
drivers from their CD first.

George.

Hi John.

When I plugged my cannon LiDe 210 scanner in to my PC this morning, it
downloaded and installed the drivers automatically using Windows Update
drivers. Obviously there is utility software that if I wished I could install,
but Cannon drivers are readily available directly from Microsoft and are WHQL
certified.

All the best, Ibrahim.
